Harvest Hosts Membership ROI Calculator
Will a Harvest Hosts membership actually save you money?
This tool compares your current nightly campground spend against the cost of a Harvest Hosts annual membership plus what you would typically spend supporting each host you visit.
Enter your own numbers below. We do not fabricate pricing, so look up the current membership price on the official site before you calculate.
Prices change. Use the figure listed on the Harvest Hosts site today.

Most visits are a single night, so this is roughly the number of separate host visits per year. Many hosts allow up to four nights.
Use the average you actually pay, not a national average. Higher rates favor the membership; cheaper state parks or boondocking shrink the gap.
Hosts ask members to make a purchase to support the location. Enter what you realistically expect to spend on wine, produce, a meal, or admission.
Calculator Methodology
Net savings = (nights × campground rate) − (membership + nights × host spend). Break even nights = membership ÷ (campground rate − host spend), when that gap is positive.
The math assumes one paid campground night avoided per host visit. It does not include fuel detours to reach a host, alcohol or food you would have bought anyway, or the value of unique experiences.
All dollar values are inputs you provide. We do not preload a membership price because it changes; always confirm the current figure on the Harvest Hosts site.

RV Solar Calculator Questions
How many solar panels does an RV need?
Most RVs need 400 to 800W of solar capacity.
Weekend campers usually need 400W, which is two 200W panels. Full timers usually need 600 to 800W, which is three or four panels.
Those figures assume 2,000 to 4,000 watt hours of power a day.
What size solar system for weekend vs full time RVing?
Weekend RVers need 400W solar + 200Ah battery ($1,200). Full time RVers need 600 to 800W solar + 300 to 400Ah battery ($2,000 to $3,000).
Use our calculator for personalized recommendations based on your specific appliances and usage patterns.
How much does RV solar installation cost?
Complete RV solar systems range from $1,200 (basic 400W setup) to $3,500+ (premium 800W+ systems). DIY installation saves $500 to $1,000 in labor costs.
Costs include solar panels ($110 to $250 per 200W panel), charge controller ($200 to $400), and lithium battery bank ($600 to $1,500).
Can I run my RV AC on solar?
Running AC on solar requires 1,200 to 2,000W of panels and significant battery capacity (600 to 1,000Ah lithium). Many RVers use solar for everything except AC due to the high power requirements.
Soft start devices can help but AC remains the biggest challenge for solar systems.
Renogy vs Victron: Which solar panels are better for RVs?
Renogy offers excellent value with 200W panels typically priced $140 to $220 with high efficiency and proven reliability. Victron is known for premium charge controllers and components with superior build quality.
Both brands are excellent. Choose Renogy for budget conscious installations or Victron for maximum performance and longevity.
Check current prices as they fluctuate.
How do I calculate RV solar panel size?
Use this formula: Required Watts = (Daily Wh Usage ÷ Peak Sun Hours) ÷ System Efficiency (typically 80%). For example: 3,000Wh daily usage ÷ 5 sun hours ÷ 0.80 = 750W of solar panels needed.
Our calculator automates this calculation with product recommendations.
What battery size do I need with my RV solar panels?
Battery capacity should store 1 to 2 days of power usage.
For a 400W solar system (producing ~2,000Wh/day), use 200 to 300Ah lithium battery. For 800W systems (producing ~4,000Wh/day), use 300 to 400Ah lithium.
Lithium batteries are preferred over lead acid for RV solar due to deeper discharge capability and longer lifespan.
